For the last two years we have been working with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to design and facilitate ON Prime, a program that aims to help Australian researchers find the best adoption pathway for their science and technology. Prime is an intensive eight week program and recently won the Australian Government’s 2017 Public Sector Innovation Award.
Over the last two years, we’ve work with over 100 researchers from across Australia’s research sector. In helping them identify new paths to impact we’ve utilized lean start-up and human-centred design methodologies, and have supported researcher ‘get out of the lab’ and interview – collectively – over 1000 customers and stakeholders.
Not only have the ideas progressed, but participants also learned skills and developed expertise that can be used when future opportunities are presented.
Feedback from participants has been very positive, with many feeling that the new tools and knowledge have opened their eyes to new opportunities for research and impact. Key to our success has been an ability to create an environment where participants feel free to explore and try new methods, to share challenges, and where failure is re-framed as an opportunity for learning. We are super excited to continue our relationship with CSIRO and continue to deliver this incredibly important program.
